Expo 2015, tra ritardi e polemiche

Miss still15 months from Expo 2015 opening ceremony (Milan, March 31st to November 23rd) with theme “Nourish the Planet, energy for life” and the main focus is give visibility to tradition, creativity and innovation in food sector.

With more than 140 Countries and 20 millions visitors estimated, it's clear that Expo 2015 could be a great occasion for Italian agriculture and wine & food sector.

Side to Italy hall we will have “Vino & Olio” hall: 2.000 square meters, 9 different thematic areas. A path to go with not specialize visitors to discover traditions, wine & olive terroir. This is the idea behind VeronaFiere and Vinitaly project creating the wine and olive oil hall with an investment of 5 millions euro.

Right now we are still on the high seas: no one project or approbation exist on the horizon. Expo 2015 seems to forget about wine and olive oil and the Expo 2015 mascot, designed by Disney Italia, have a lot of fruit but not grape.

Not just a mascot but a real family made by 11 different food characters: garlic, watermelon, orange, banana, fig, blue corn, mango, apple, pomegranate, pear and radish. The cheerful and ducky faces able to tell and explain the theme “Nourish the Planet, energy for life”. A kids contest assign to everyone a name. Yes, to everyone except grape and olives, symbol of Italian excellence but not represent during the Expo.

For this reason FederDoc ask to Italian Minister of Agriculture, Nunzia De Girolamo, to “pay more attention to fundamental thematic regarding certified products and Made in Italy in general and complain the decision of Expo 2015 organization. This operation, considering the cultural situation, need to involve all the kids introducing vine, grape and wine as fundamental elements of Italian culture. From the side of Consorzi di Tutela and producers of wine from Italian Origin Denomination, FederDoc disapprove Expo organization working method.”
